2014, Public HealthCitation Excerpt :This false belief that occasional smoking is safe may perpetuate physicians' smoking and consequently reflect on society at large, undermining cessation and tobacco control progress. Moreover, recent research reports that occasional smoking is an emergent pattern of the general population and that it is difficult for these smokers to quit.5,10 Overall, it has been found that the physicians continue to underestimate tobacco hazards and the importance of their example as non-smokers and role-models.
