Intergenerational health effects of Medicaid
2022, Economics and Human BiologyCitation Excerpt :I restrict the sample to mothers aged 20–45. The age restriction is to avoid distorting effects from teenage pregnancy and the risks associated with pregnancy at older ages that might be correlated with birth outcomes (Arya et al., 2018; Ben-David et al., 2016; Carolan and Frankowska, 2011; Jacobsson et al., 2004; Kirdar et al., 2018; Liou et al., 2010; sun Lee et al., 1988; Swamy et al., 2012). In addition, I drop multiple births since their health at birth is consistently lower than singleton births for reasons other than the health environment during the intrauterine period (Almond and Mazumder, 2011a).
Evidence around early induction of labor in women of advanced maternal age and those using assisted reproductive technology
2021, Best Practice and Research: Clinical Obstetrics and GynaecologyCitation Excerpt :Several studies have demonstrated that there is a linear association between advanced maternal age and the risk for fetal growth restriction (FGR), resulting in small-for-gestation (SGA) babies [15]. A large retrospective study conducted by Lee et al. of nearly 190 000 women showed that mothers aged 35 and above were at the highest risk of having a growth-restricted baby [16]. Even after adjusting for other confounding factors of IUGR, advanced maternal age remained an independent risk factor, possibly reflecting maternal ageing of biological tissues and the cumulative effects of diseases associated with increasing age [16].
A coregionalization model can assist specification of Geographically Weighted Poisson Regression: Application to an ecological study
2016, Spatial and Spatio-temporal EpidemiologyCitation Excerpt :Preterm birth is one of the leading factors of LBW (Kramer, 1987). The age of the mother is also associated with LBW, with younger and older mothers at greater risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weights (Lee et al., 1988; Fraser et al., 1995). Home ownership tends to be inversely related to the extent of urbanization (Mulder and Wagner, 2001).
Age at first reproduction and probability of reproductive failure in women
2011, Evolution and Human BehaviorCitation Excerpt :For example, in women, clinical observations indicate that the probability of producing a live birth per pregnancy declines significantly with maternal age after age 30 (Schwartz & Mayaux, 1982; van Noord-Zaadstra et al., 1991; also Raymond et al. (1994) for reproduction after 35). Also, later maternal age is associated with higher risk of low birth weight of infants, which may be linked with lower survival rate in the future (Geronimus, 1996; Lee et al., 1988). Such previous studies on humans documenting age-related changes in offspring quality have however typically investigated the consequences of maternal age per se across a women's reproductive lifespan but have failed to consider how any offspring quality outcome is modified by the onset age of reproduction for these mothers.
