  • In categorical variables, men were compared with women, obese (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) and underweight (BMI <18.5 kg/m2) patients with patients with BMI greater than or equal to 18.5–29.9 kg/m2, smokers with non-smokers and patients living in supported housing with patients living independently. The patients with certain underlying condition were compared with those without the underlying condition in question. Continuous variables (age, number of underlying conditions) are presented as mean and SD and median and IQR (25th–75th percentile); categorical variables are presented as number (n) and per cent (%). P values were calculated with Mann-Whitney U test for continuous variables and with χ2 test and Fisher’s exact test for categorical variables.

  • *Calculated with Fisher’s exact test.

  • BMI, body mass index; COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; RSV, respiratory syncytial virus.
