I, a senior nursing student at university of the Bahamas read your article “ Attitudes and beliefs about hand hygiene among pediatric residents: a qualitative study. After carefully reading and reflecting I found this research to be very fascinating especially because I didn't realize how many persons in the medical field had various attitudes and beliefs about personal hand hygiene. I always believed that hand hygiene for everyone was straightforward. Pediatrics is one of the fields I'm interested in as a nurse and pediatric residents play a vital role in the health care system due to them dealing with children as young as newborn infants, so their hygiene is most importantly important to those pediatric patients. Your research was eye-opening and very fascinating and informative. Hand hygiene is a vital technique in the healthcare profession as it helps to reduce the transmission of harmful pathogens.
In the article, it was stated that the reason for such low compliance towards hand hygiene had to do with the lack of availability of hand washing material, time, workload issues, knowledge and education as well as staff attitudes regarding hand hygiene. For residents, it was encouraged that the physician is to be a role model and practice more frequent hand washing so that the residents may follow.
