Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate predictorsof loneliness in centenarians for two countries: TheUSA and Sweden. It was hypothesized thatcognition, personality, social support and physicalhealth would predict loneliness. Results indicatedthat personality, social support and physical healthwere good predictors of loneliness in the US sample, while cognition and social support were the strongestpredictors in the Swedish sample. Social supportpredicted loneliness negatively in the US sample, butwas positively associated with loneliness in Sweden.
