Participant inclusion and exclusion criteria

  • Experienced the care of stroke, cardiac or orthogeriatric wards as a stroke, AMI or hip fracture patient*

  • Deemed well enough by a ward nurse or doctor for the researcher to approach

  • Provided with notification, verbally or in writing, of discharge

  • Willing to give written informed consent

  • Willing to participate in the study

  • No capacity to give informed consent (eg, suffering from dementia, delirium or confusion)

  • Suffering from physical or emotional distress (eg, in pain, having recently received bad news)

  • Unable to communicate in English (unless a carer or family member would act as an interpreter)

  • Under the age of 18

  • Currently enrolled in a clinical trial
