Gharbi et al. addressed the paucity of rigorous data concerning baseline antibiotic use in hospitalized pediatric inpatients in the UK. They described areas of potential improvement for appropriate antibiotic prescribing. What I found interesting about this research is that the use of carbapenems and piperacillin-tazobactam, critical broad-spectrum antibiotics, were included in the inquiry.
